Lizzies Barn Sanctuary

Name Of Rescue: Lizzies Barn Sanctuary

Website of rescue: www.lizziesbarn.co.uk

Where rescue is based (Town, County): Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire

Where rescue rehome to: UK

Type of animal(s) Rescue deals with: Dogs

Is Rescue breed specific? Please explain either way: No. We often take dogs that other rescues don’t want – those who have behavioural problems or have medical problems. The way that the sanctuary is run with no kennels usually provides these dogs with the support they need to stabilise them before they are homed.

Do you neuter all animals before leaving for forever homes where applicable? Please explain either way: Yes, unless the dog is less than 6 months old (and it will then be made a condition of the adoption contract that the new owner undertake this at 6 months of age) or unless we have been advised by our vet that it is not in the dog’s best interest

Do you always home check?: Yes

If applicable do you always vaccinate?: Yes

If applicable do you always worm/flea treat?: Yes

If applicable do you microchip?: Yes

Do you provide insurance when rehoming to new owners?: Yes – 4 weeks basic cover with Petplan

Will you always take the animal back no matter what? If not please explain under what circumstances etc: Yes, always

Rough ‘donation’ guide per animal, please also explain what this involves: We ask for a donation to the sanctuary of £160 to provide a dog that has been neutered, vaccinated, flea and worm treated and microchipped along with a supply of the food that they have been on. It is explained in our procedure that the donation is a non-refundable donation to the sanctuary and not an adoption fee as the money is put into the fund to help cover the costs of not only the dog that is being adopted but those who are still waiting for their homes or are too ill or too bogged down with behavioural issues to ever be homed.
